The 1st Old had their 60th Birthday dinner in their 61st
year.
Due to a hectic schedule the band finally got a chance to have a band dinner to
celebrate their 60th a year late. The event took place last Saturday
16th June 2007 in the Park Avenue hotel, Belfast.
The function was well attended and had members of the band old and new.
After
a buffet meal, Ian Shuttleworth, the bands chairman started of the formalities
by congratulating the band on 60 years plus 1. He then segued into a surprise
for one member of the band.

Bradley Milligan affectionately knows as Brad was celebrating his 50th
year in the band and is still an active playing member. Ian gave tribute to his
fellow Bb Bass partner and presented a gift to Brad from the band who then gave
a quite emotional speech about how he started in the band 50 years ago on 2nd
Baritone practicing scales in the back room of the old band hall, then moving on
to Bb Bass where he has remained until present day.
Jim Kitchen Senior, long time ex-soprano cornet and assistant conductor with the
band also made tribute to Bradley.
Alfie Burch then gave a speech about the band and said how he enjoyed conducting
the band for over thirty years and some highlights including a second in the
Grand Shield in Blackpool. He then concluded about how pleased he was to be
still associated with the band.
Mark Bingham made a personal note to Ronnie Kennedy Senior saying it was good to
have him back in the band giving a wealth of experience to the back row.
