North of Ireland Bands Association Championships 2006

THe 1st Old Boys took the honours at the 89th Championship of Ireland Contest.

The results for the 89th Championship of Ireland Bands Contest organised by the North of Ireland Bands Association and held in the Ulster Hall, Belfast on Saturday 28th October 2006 were as follows:


Championship:

1. 1st Old Boys Band (Stephen Cairns)    - 94pts
2. Laganvale (Metal Technology) (Ernest Ruddock) - 92 pts
3. Strabane Concert Brass (Jonathon Corry) - 89pts
4. Murley Silver (John Berryman) - 88pts

The prize for the best soloist was awarded to Mark Bingham of the 1st Old Boys Band (solo cornet)

Second Grade:

1. Third Carrickfergus  (Dessie Graham)    - 94 points
2. Downshire Brass ( Dr Windsor Hylands) - 92 points

Third Grade:

1. Roughan Silver (Keith Anderson)     - 96 points
2. Newtownards Silver (James Kitchen Sn) - 94 points
3. Comber Silver (Jeff Clarke)     - 93 points

Fourth Grade:

1. Poyntzpass Silver - 91 points
2. Ballinamallard Silver - 89 points

Fifth Grade/Unaffiliated:

1. Maguiresbridge Silver - 97 points

The adjudicator was Mrs Hughina Naylor. The Contest continues next Saturday, 4th November, when the Flute bands and Concert bands will be in competition.
