The Band Play for Royalty at Hillsborough Castle
An ensemble from the band played for Prince Charles at a Garden Party at Hillsborough Castle on Wednesday 3rd September 2003. Prince Charles took time to thank the band for playing at the event and asked if we could play some jazz for him!
We played from 12.30pm until 5.00pm when the prince left, playing alternately with a steel band from Coleraine College.
This was a highlight of our summer ‘outdoor’ season. Unfortunately one of our players, John Lee, collapsed after the event and had to be taken to hospital. He was discharged the next day and attended band rehearsal that night! (He is one of our more enthusiastic and dedicated members J).
